Who is Daon Trusted Identity Services?
Daon Trusted Identity Services (DTIS) provides operational support for the nation's largest civilian clearinghouse for federally regulated biometric and biographic background check processing. Created in 2002 to provide cost-effective and expedient background checking services, DTIS has facilitated the government mandated biometric background checks for commercial use airports and air carriers. Do I require fingerprinting?
Certain entities by law are required to have fingerprint based background check. To determine if you are required, please check with your employer or potential employer.
What is a background check?
The term "background check" is often used interchangeably with "criminal history check" or "criminal history record check". Level 1 and Level 2 Background Checks are terms used in Florida Statutes to convey the method of the criminal history record check and the extent of the data searched. In the state of Florida a Level 2 background check generally refers to a state and national fingerprint based check and consideration of disqualifying offenses.
Which entities submit electronic requests for criminal history record checks?
There are several agencies submitting electronically, including all 67 school districts, the Department of Business and Professional Regulations (DBPR), the Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DOACS), local counties and some private companies. Currently, the following agencies are supported:

What is the process for completing a background check?
The process of completing a background check has been streamlined to be as easy as possible. After completing the forms, making your payment, and scheduling an appointment on this site, you simply go to the selected The UPS Store with the pre-registration receipt this site provided and have your fingerprints scanned. In addition to the receipt provided to you on this site, please bring a form of picture ID, such as a driver's license, passport, or military ID.
When you arrive at The UPS Store for your appointment, the Trusted Enrollment Agent there will scan your receipt to bring up your information on the Biometric Enrollment System and then verify the data against your ID. You will then be guided through the process of scanning your fingerprints and your record will be electronically submitted to Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the FBI for the background check. Upon completion, you will be provided with an enrollment receipt by the Trusted Enrollment Agent.
You may track the status of your background check at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) using the TCN number provided on your receipt.
How do I make payments?
Payments are made during the pre-registration process which is done on-line.
What payments are accepted?
Credit card and debit card payments are accepted.
Where can I have my fingerprints scanned?
In order to make the process of completing a background check as convenient, consistent, and professional as possible, we work jointly with The UPS Store to offer locations throughout the state. One of the steps for completing the background check is to schedule an appointment to visit The UPS Store. During this step, you can decide which store is most convenient for you, as well as what time works best for you. Please note that not all The UPS Store locations offer this service, and you will be provided options when you pre-register at www.daontis.com/fl.
What forms of ID should I bring?
It is important to bring proof of identity. Current, valid, and unexpired driver's license or state/federal government issued identity card meeting the same standards as the driver's license.
Is my Personal Information at any risk of being stolen?
No. No information is kept at The UPS Store.
All scans are immediately sent. Nothing is stored on the computers at the store. Criminal History information is sent directly from FDLE to the State Agency. Nothing is communicated back to The UPS Store - it is simply the collection point in the process.
The information you entered during the pre-enrollment process online is stored at our DTIS national operations center outside of Washington DC which is FISMA compliant and FBI audited. When you enter The UPS Store and we scan your appointment slip, your record is uploaded to the Live Scan system so we can capture your electronic fingerprints, tie them to your biographical data you entered online, and send the entire package off for processing. Nothing is stored on the computers at the store.
How long does it take to complete a state and national criminal history record check when fingerprints are submitted electronically?
Typically state and national criminal history record checks are completed within two to three working days of receiving the electronic submission. Your employer will contact you once the results have been submitted to the agency.
